One world one fight

One world, one fight

Together we can support the Global Fund and save 23 million lives. Now more than ever, we must unite to create a healthier and fairer world.

Introduction

The Global Fund has played a crucial role in the fight against HIV, tuberculosis (TB) and malaria, and has helped redefine global health since its creation in 2002. Over the past two decades, it has saved 70 million lives and reduced deaths from these three diseases by 63 per cent.

Today, multiple interconnected crises – including climate change, economic instability, threats of new pandemics and conflicts – threaten the progress made against HIV, TB and malaria. To end the epidemics and build a healthier, more equitable future, we must unite to support proven partnership models. We must unite to support the Global Fund.

The investment case for the eighth replenishment of the Global Fund calls for US$18 billion to generate large-scale impact. This investment case predicts that a fully funded Global Fund partnership could:

23M
Lives to save (2027-2029)
400M

Infections to avoid (2027-2029)
1:19
Return on investment
42Md$
Healthcare cost savings

In addition to specific responses to HIV, TB and malaria, the Global Fund invests one-third of its resources in strengthening health systems and communities, including support for community health workers, disease surveillance and supply chains. These investments improve the resilience of health systems to future pandemics and accelerate progress towards universal health coverage (UHC).

The Global Fund's multi-stakeholder partnership model has been essential in effectively responding to the three diseases, strengthening health and community systems, and promoting domestic health financing in Africa. The One World, One Fight campaign is an urgent call to support the Global Fund. Civil society and communities in the region are calling for increased domestic resources for health and a fully funded Global Fund to preserve the gains made so far and save up to 23 million more lives.

Now is the time for us to act—together.

We urge you to join us and say #HereIAm to call for a fully funded Global Fund to protect the progress made against the epidemics of HIV, TB and malaria. #MoreNowThanEver, investment must continue to stop new infections, prevent deaths and save lives. It's #OneWorldOneFight – we must unite to create a healthier and more equitable world.

GFAN Africa's objectives with the One World, One Fight campaign:

Amplifying African leadership and communications for a successful Global Fund Replenishment

Mobilising political leadership for domestic health investments

Engaging civil society and community champions for the Global Fund

Justification

An era of multiple crises

Our world faces political and economic instability, climate change, pandemics and more. These interconnected crises threaten to overwhelm health systems, exacerbate inequalities and reverse progress made against HIV, TB and malaria. No country or region can tackle these challenges alone.

A social movement with a memory

For decades, the fight against HIV, TB and malaria has demonstrated the power of global solidarity. The crises of our time transcend borders, cultures and generations – our response should do the same! Progress comes from our collective action.

Power of partnerships

We all have a role to play in creating the transformational change we need. Communities, civil society, political leaders, institutions and other stakeholders must work together to build a healthier and more equitable world. We must work together to support the Global Fund's proven partnership model.
