As part of the Équité Accès Palu project, which is being implemented in the Far North region of Cameroon, a large-scale initiative was carried out in Maroua 3, made possible through community mobilisation and local advocacy. The civil society organisation CADELCO, an Impact Santé Afrique partner in the district, secured COHEB International/UNICEF’s commitment to providing concrete support to the most vulnerable populations.

This collaboration enabled 350 solar-powered radios to be distributed to internally displaced persons and persons living with disabilities in partnership with the community radio station Espoir FM. This improved their access to general health information and malaria-specific prevention messages.

In addition, 160 hygiene kits were distributed to the same beneficiaries to help improve their living conditions.

Finally, to support frontline workers, 60 coats were donated to community health workers in the district to help them with their work in the field, especially as the rainy season approaches — a time of high malaria transmission.

This initiative is a concrete example of the Équité Accès Palu project’s impact. The project focuses on community advocacy and the mobilisation of local resources to promote equitable access to information and strengthen effective malaria prevention, particularly among the most vulnerable populations.
