Djeleng B: Positive masculinity at the heart of the fight against malaria!

On September 7, 2025, the Association of Bamendjou Clans in Djeleng 1B was buzzing with excitement during an educational talk unlike any other. Organized by the Moje Foundation, in partnership with the ALVF (Association for the Fight Against Violence Against Women), this meeting highlighted an often-neglected aspect of the fight against malaria: positive masculinity.

After a review of the basics of the disease and how to prevent it, the discussion turned to the responsibility of men within their families. The exchanges served as a reminder that malaria does not only affect women and children, but threatens every member of the community. The involvement of husbands, as heads of households, therefore appeared to be essential.

Three key points were highlighted:

✔️ Ensure that the family has mosquito nets and uses them correctly every night.

✔️ Ensure the quality of care and compliance with prescribed treatments in the event of illness in the household.

✔️ Making prevention (use of MILDA, sanitation, early recourse to ASC or FOSA) a family priority.

Beyond sharing knowledge, this discussion allowed participants’ perceptions to be gathered and educated the community on shared responsibility for health. Above all, it highlighted the central role of male leadership, which is essential to strengthening the fight against malaria.
